An eight-figure settlement has been obtained for a boy who suffered life-changing brain damage after a lorry collided with the car he was travelling in.
The boy was just 11 years old when the accident happened. As well as injuries to his face and chest, he sustained a traumatic brain injury. He was airlifted to hospital, where he spent more than three months. This was followed by a further three-month period of rehabilitation.
As a result of the damage to his brain, he has problems with vision and motor skills and has developed behavioural difficulties. There is a risk that he will suffer from epilepsy in the future. Previously a high achiever at school, his injuries have affected his academic and career prospects, and he will require lifelong care and support.
A claim was commenced after his mother sought legal advice. It was established that the lorry driver had been travelling at 20 mph over the speed limit and had had cannabis in his bloodstream at the time of the accident.
A settlement of the boy's claim worth more than £10 million was reached. The settlement will provide him with the care and support he needs, including a support package enabling him to attend a suitable secondary school.
